“It’s aware wolf!”
“A werewolf?!”
“No aware — wolf! The wolf that is clairvoyant.”
“And I’m standing right behind you,” the wolf said to them as he stepped out of the shadows and right onto some loose Lego bricks on the floor. “Aaaooouuuu!” He fell to the ground clutching his foot/paw thing.
The two stood there regarding him.
“Hold up! If you’re clairvoyant… Oh sorry, where are my manners? Are you alright clairvoyant wolf?”
“Yes. I’ll be fine. Thank you.” He said with with an obviously wounded pride.
“Oh good okay. So now, hold up. If you’re clairvoyant, did you step on those Lego bricks on purpose?”
“Of course I didn’t step on those legos deliberately! I’m clairvoyant not masochistic!”
The two non-wolves looked at each other.
The wolf sighed. “The truth is I’m only mostly clairvoyant. Certain things kind of fly under the radar. Things like these little hellbricks, I, I just can’t detect them.” His eyes started to well up.
“Hey, don’t feel so bad. I’m guessing neither of us can see the future at all.”
“You’re right. Of course you’re right. But I’m under so much pressure, you know? Nobody cares if you can foresee most things. It’s all or nothing for people these days. I’ve even been thinking of dropping the whole thing and going back to the woods. Things were so much simpler back then before all of this nonsense began.”
The wolf continued, “It was a pleasant spring day and I was wandering through the the forest as usual, when a blue 1996 Plymouth Town & Country pulled up along side me. Three decently dressed men got out of the van and asked me if I wanted to spend the rest of my life in the woods or if I’d like my life to count towards something bigger. They were from a nearby university and were running experiments and paying $200 to participants. Long story short, the two hundred is spent and gone and I now have a mostly impressive skill.”
“Plamf U?” Asked the one guy.
“Yes, that was the name.” The wolf replied with a subtle hint of bitterness.
“Oh yeah! I was a freshman when those trials were being conducted. Small world. Wow, I didn’t know they were experimenting on wolves too.”
“Unfortunately, for me, that is the case.”
The other person who we’ve only heard from once at the very beginning, started darting her eyes and looking a little clammy.
“Dr. Plamf, are you alright? You don’t look so well.” Said our previously unnamed character, Charlie.
“Plamf? Plamf! Are you the one responsible for those reckless experiments?!” At this point, the wolf seemed way more like a wolf. Charlie was scared, but Dr. Plamf was terrified.
“Well I, I wouldn’t say I was exactly responsible for the experiments. Sure, I signed off on many efforts of scientific inquiry during my time at the university, but that was a long time ago. Things were different back then. Besides, you could have declined the offer.”
“Don’t try to scapegoat my willingness to participate, Doctor. You were personally overseeing the wolf experiments, weren’t you?!”
Dr. Plamf stood shaking.
“Admit it!” The wolf growled. “Admit that you personally conducted those brutal experiments on helpless timberwolves just for a cheap joke. A PUN!”
“Alight! Please! I admit it! All of it!” The doctor broke down and in between sobs said, “Back then we were all drunk on plenty of funding and nothing to hold us back. A few of us thought it would be funny, you know? Awarewolf? It was maybe a bit of a stretch but we did it anyway. I’m very sorry, Mr. Wolf. I’m very sorry.”
“Thank you, Dr. Plamf.” The wolf said calmly, “And now I must eat you.”
Both humans cowered in fear. The wolf laughed, “Just kidding, I really can’t stand people. Good night to you.” And the mostly clairvoyant wolf slipped back into the shadows.”

I looked around in confusion and saw it. A wolf as tall as I was stalked towards us. Its pelt was as white as the snow all around us. The clairvoyant wolf stopped and stared, straight at me. It seemed to gaze into my soul with its different colored eyes, one gold and one silver.
"I haven't been that truthful to you Luka." Dan said, while standing next to me "I didn't take you to the middle of the woods to camp. It was so you could talk to the aware wolf, he's has been asking for you."
"what would a clairvoyant wolf want with me?!" I squeaked, "I didn't even know clairvoyant wolves existed."
"well they don't come from this world. This wolf is a messenger of Fate, he is here to deliver a prophesy. A prophesy for you. This must be important, when I spoke with him before he told me that the Goddess is dead."
The wolf padded closer to us and, began to speak.
"This is the last prophecy to pass through my mistress's lips before her demise so you must listen carefully" I could see a deep sorrow in the wolf's eyes as he spoke, and I was struck by the level of emotion contained within those eyes. "Are you ready for your prophecy?"
Squaring my shoulders and taking a deep breath I replied. "yes"
The wolf sat down and closed his eyes. A few moments later he opened them, but they now glowed with a blinding light. Slowly a third eye began to project onto the wolf's forehead with a powerful blue glow. All around us faint chords of light faded in and out of reality, clearly the strings of fate. Opening his mouth the wolf began to speak.
"When the eldest shines bright and the youngest shines none.
The Mother will die and the sky shall fade
At the edge of this world the star bridge awaits
for there you must go to start anew.
Masses shall follow and masses shall die.
but to reach salvation they must reach the other side."
After he said it, the great wolf arose. Turning away he walked away. Infront of him a tear started to appear, one large enough for the large wolf to walk into. through the rift I could see an alien world, a starry sky and an endless white plain stretching on"
"hey!" I shouted at the wolf, "is that it? please give me a hint at least"
But he said nothing. He walked through the rift which immediately closed behind him. His pawprints in the snow already filling with new snow, as if the weather wanted to remove any trace of this strange encounter.
"well what are you going to do now?" asked Dan.
I bit back a choked laugh, "Time to decipher a prophecy I guess."

Tremors quaked as the hulking direwolf released the tree trunk from its massive jaws. A long pink floppy tongue drooped from jagged fangs. Piercing blue eyes peered from a tornado of silver fur. The pair of imperial guards clutched their golden helmets, dropping their silver spears at the foot of the might beast. Their minds overwhelmed with haunting howls.
I got the stick! I got the stick! Throw it again! Come on! Throw it again!
A booming drum echoed through the fort. Twenty men wheeled the enormous trebuchet out the gates. In perfect sync they loaded the tree trunk and primed the siege weapon. Brass horns blared. With a mighty launch the tree trunk flew into the clouds over the battlefield.
I'm gonna go get it! Have a treat ready next time okay?
The message jumped from brain to brain as the direwolf pounced off towards the horizon, kicking up an all engulfing dust storm. The soldiers went about their daily routine. They prepared two prisoners for wolfy, he was a good boy.
