Hi all. Pretty much as the title says. Thanks
This guy gets it
Not sure if anybody has said it. Law Enforcement is required to take an electronic version of proof of insurance in Pennsylvania. That said, I always print mine and have a screen shot backed up in case I’m out of service/have technical difficulties. This is a state by state thing. So traveling out of state, it’s easier to have a paper copy.
Yep. Never hand your cell to the cops.
Print one out, or read the police the relevant info.
> read the police the relevant info
yeah, theres no way thats gonna work out in your favor.
print it out. hand them a sheet of paper
My thoughts exactly 💯
Print it out. Never know when the app craps out on you or you are in a dead zone.
Print it. While police may accept it, repair shops do not for some reason for inspections.
Im an inspection tech, we are required to take it off a phone now. Not sure how long ago that changed, but its been a few years. Still need a physical copy of registration tho.
I have a fleet vehicle and we are only issued print outs. Get my pa inspection just fine with a print out. No one has ever said anything otherwise.
yes, we take it both ways. We cant require the customer to have a paper copy of insurance.
If they shove your phone in the folder with your car's paperwork, it won't fit in the drawer
Mine has always been accepted digitally when I’ve taken my car in. Either they copy info down or I email them the attachment and they print it.
Yeah all places I've been to for the last several years have an email address at the counter to send insurance/registration to.
Same with vehicle registration. PA will let you renew online but you need to print it out yourself, and an auto shop won’t be able to scan it off your phone.
One year I renewed that way, and forgot about printing or saving the new registration entirely. Had to go to a notary public for a new printout, which cost a small fee.
You are not required to have a paper copy, but it would be in your best interest to have one. What if your phone is dead? Or if you lend your car to a friend? Having a copy in your glove box is a good idea.
Do you want to give your phone to a cop who is going to take it into their car and out of your sight? I guarantee that you giving them your phone is equivalent to permission to scan your phone.
If you hand the cop your phone and he drops your phone they are not responsible for damages. Inspection station is the same they are not responsible for damages to your phone
It's best to have it printed just in case
Best to lock and turn your phone off , when pulled over . Get a dash cam also .
Carry it.
I got in a fender bender and the cop accepted it off of my phone for the form. I intended to print it but forgot, so I am glad I had it that way. I have since printed it.
Paper copy
Insurance can definitely be presented via phone screen. Registration... I don't know I'm sure it will be digitalized one day. But remember they removed the reg sticker off the license plate so a cop can just enter your plate info to find out. I keep paper copies of insurance, registration tho because my phone sucks
Just print it.
I once forgot to print out the updated cards before taking my car for an inspection. It wasn't a big deal for my mechanic to print out the updated cards, but it was a mildly embarrassing phone call that could've been avoided by just printing them out. On top of that, I'd really hate to try explaining that a picture on my phone is just as good as a printed card to a cop.
You CAN use the app but paper is more reliable
No. In pa it is legal to present a digital copy.

Pennsylvania law requires you to carry a copy of your proof of insurance to present to an officer upon request

I've read off my insurance information from my phone once being I switched policies a few weeks beforehand and forgot to print out my new information. Officer was totally cool with the situation, however I felt anxious trying to pull up my information quickly.
To echo the previous comments I would recommend against giving an officer access to your unlocked cellular device.
Have a printout available to save yourself from a headache.
It's such crap with today's tech.
Dmv and insurance companies are linked. They know what you got.
You dont need a physical copy in pa and you do not need to provide it out of state even if asked. I dont like giving cops my phone but if you dont have a printer you can always screen shot it and then have it in your files on your phone incase you have app problems.
Wait. You are saying you don’t need to provide proof of insurance out of state?

Correct
How's that work? Seriously kind of shocked

I would print it out.
I don't want my phone in cops hands.
