I want this. Where does one start at getting parts?

Arnav74 t1_ixnt1ij wrote

you can probably find the prophet for around USD $400 and the keycap set for another $350-400 on mechmarket, these are just estimates though. switches probably $60-70, stabs around $25

Unfortunately u/Arnav74 is correct, the keyboard case and keycap are both past GBs.

If you didn't want to go aftermarket, you could achieve something kind of similar with a black QK60 and caps like GMK Lilac on Black.

Oh OK cool. Ummm I'm not really sure what all the terms are that you all are using. What's a good resource on how to build my own? Is that what you all are doing building these from different components?

Any good recommendations for not GMK but still a similar color scheme? I don't have GMK money unfortunately but love the look of these

I see Prophet - I upvote simple.

Very nice man, I love mine although could do with a rebuild soon. This may just inspire me.

Looks sick, always nervous about that set the purple always seems to be a different color depending on how it's photographed. Is it really dark like that in regular light?

Nuap OP t1_ixnyt0e wrote

It does look different under different lights. This photo is underexposed by about 1/3 stop and taken outside on an overcast day. So it's reasonably close to real life, just a little bit darker.

I think the problem with some photos is that because the keycaps are primarily black, automatic exposure (especially on mobile phones) tends to bring the brightness up, which really blows out the purple colour.

oh damn it's so good. I just bought a keyboard don't do this to me ;(

Yeah, you know - you can have more than one keyboard. The argumentation line is also very simple: One keyboard for every day of the week, you know - for variety, this can then easily be scaled up to day of the month, and special holidays... Of course for leap years you would also want something different...

So, the correct amount of keyboards to own is always "current amount + 1"...

Can you work without arrow keys?

1

Nuap OP t1_ixnzjgg wrote

The arrow keys are readily available on a layer for when I need them, usable by my right hand. Then my left is available for Ctrl / Shift / whatever other key I need to press along with arrows. I am a software developer so don't need arrows too much.

Honestly the hardest thing about the layout is playing RTS games like Age of Empires.

Yeah, I'm a computer scientist who still occasionally has to implement things in code, and I'm always sort of surprised when people ask me how I am able to do that with my HHKBs. I actually think I work more efficiently because of how little I have to move my hands from the home row.
