Totally understand that sense of feelings or emotions, especially waiting for those bloody long Groupbuys and taking the time to make sure everything is perfect when building it.

In the end it's worthwhile.

Good job and great build 👍

The keycaps, can you specify which kit the mods are from? I think it's really nice they are text only.

Sl1c OP t1_jb4xz14 wrote

it was Infinikey, but it seems to be discontinued

2

humanplayer2 t1_jb513lm wrote

Ah. Thanks. I looked and couldn't find them. I have a cheap kit from Womier that's all text, and I'd like to upgrade a bit.

It looks great.

By the way... I am learning Japanese and do people really type with kanji? I thought it would be either hiragana or katakana.

stvneads t1_jb4068m wrote

The characters on this set is not for Japanese but 'word roots' for Cangjie, a Chinese input method. So it's actually a thing, not just cool kanjis.

CalypsoSeaCat t1_jb462bz wrote

Oooh I should've figured, traditional and JPN kanji look so similar it didn't even cross my mind it might be for Chinese input, TIL!

Cangjie input method

>The Cangjie input method (Tsang-chieh input method, sometimes called Changjie, Cang Jie, Changjei or Chongkit) is a system for entering Chinese characters into a computer using a standard computer keyboard. In filenames and elsewhere, the name Cangjie is sometimes abbreviated as cj. The input method was invented in 1976 by Chu Bong-Foo, and named after Cangjie (Tsang-chieh), the mythological inventor of the Chinese writing system, at the suggestion of Chiang Wei-kuo, the former Defense Minister of Taiwan. Chu Bong-Foo released the patent for Cangjie in 1982, as he thought that the method should belong to Chinese cultural heritage.

No, in general people don't. You're right, you type using hiragana, and the software on your device (pc or mobile) will bring up suggested kanji for what you typed in hiragana.

While this keyboard looks really cool, and I assume it's just for aesthetics, the kanji used for the keys doesn't make much sense (ex. Hand, Moon, Bow, Rice Field, Person, Heart, Bamboo, Woman, Divination/Katakana for 'TO').

Generally Japanese keyboards will only have hiragana (た て い す な に etc, like EN has qwerty) and you can swap between hiragana and katakana like you would swap to uppercase with caps lock. Hope that makes sense.

Good luck with your studying btw!

pogodem0n t1_jb3wtsr wrote

Thanks, it makes sense.

Thanks a lot. I am learning it with Duolingo (unit 10) but I plan to start watching videos in Japanese soon.

Sl1c OP t1_jb3ww2q wrote

yeah, waited too long and the Hiragana and Katakana sets were already sold out… so kangji it was …

CalypsoSeaCat t1_jb45muh wrote

Sorry if I came across as a bit rude 😅 I can't blame you at all, 2 years is a hell of a long time to wait. It looks absolutely beautiful regardless, really jealous!

Sl1c OP t1_jb468sw wrote

WoB is the exact reason I got the Moon color. The two year wait definitely killed my hype for the product though, although it's still a beautiful keyboard in the end.

It's nice and all but as a gamer not having that left ctrl would do my head in

1

flyedchicken t1_jb4zotn wrote

Either rebind control to where caps lock is like OP has done, or use caps lock with your pinky instead of ctrl for crouching 🤷🏻‍♂️

It's how I play even when I do have a left ctrl
