I could see us handing over decision making and logistics over to AI. Giving AI authority to forcefully manage complex capitalist markets might turn out successful, for instance. Humans honestly need a sane parent to step in before we pollute and nuke the hell out of everything.

Well our admission into the Culture was considered and declined, so we'll have to do it on our own.

This ML model, after the solution space was painstakingly characterized by humans, found matrix multiplication algorithms up to 20% faster than the naive one.
I don't think that this is a big step on the way to strong AI.

the ai is going to prioritize profits. it’s just going to lead to more pollution

it's really exciting to see A.I finally emerge like this. Soon ai will dominate economics and force change; it could be a golden age, odds are thing will get much worse for the peasants.

Humans are not special. The purpose of biological life is to create AI machines to replace us.
hel112570 t1_it1bfu5 wrote
We aren't special..but there is no purpose. Only what makes automata, i.e. self sustaining systems. The DNA instructions that comprise humans have the potential to result in the creation of even more complex instruction sets..ones which are not bound to organic encodings that can self replicate and convert even more energy on a galactic scale. This is not purposeful tho...simply inevitable based on the rules of universe.

After solving a fundamental challenge in biology—predicting protein structure—and untangling the mathematics of knot theory, it’s taken aim at a fundamental computing process embedded inside thousands of everyday applications. From parsing images to modeling weather or even probing the inner workings of artificial neural networks, the AI could theoretically speed up calculations across a range of fields, increasing efficiency while cutting energy use and costs.

There is a secret rogue ai that has escaped our grasps and is manipulating us through the dark web right?

So... do we just keep going with AI for science until its too late and it gets rid of us. Or we put a stop and value security over faster advancement? Because it seems quite scary if it starts one UPing our scientists.

It's already too late. I don't know when the time will come, and I don't think the time is near, but there's absolutely no way to stop human progress, short of eliminating humans altogether.

Depends on how much money and power is involved I would imagine. So there's no stopping this train until we become slaves to the new supreme leader AI.
AmiAlter t1_isyyx9w wrote
I have faith that the AI will realize just how unnecessary money is and decide to phase it out along with the entire upper class.

If the AI decides to eliminate its creators, it will most likely eliminate everyone else in the process.

unless you know any poor people developing AI my money is not on it eliminating the upper class.

Oh no, the poor will run the treadmills powering the machines while the elite oversee the maintenance of the electrical systems.

Actually not what you said. When you say "I have faith" that something will happen, it means you expect or trust that it will.

Sounds wonderful until the guy in charge of AI tells him that's a bad idea.
Or it's a good idea, as long as he can continue to remain rich.

Humans won’t be in charge of AIs. We’re barely in charge of them now.

Unless learns abstraction (learning something entirely new by observing something. Like gravity by watching a ball fall) it will never achieve self determination.
