Unfortunately... hiking through he Alps in the summer can be painful at times, looking at all those receding glaciers...
fishCodeHuntress t1_j1vdtqb wrote
I was just thinking that wow. I've never seen this area but you can tell how much that Glacier has receded in recent years.
Same here in Alaska, it's sad and concerning...

Definitely an interesting part of Italy. French is widely spoken by the natives. The Montblanc tunnel goes from here to Switzerland. The Swiss on the other side speak Italian! Some of the best skiing in Italy is in this area.
ThreesKompany t1_j1uy5o1 wrote
Its an awesome part of the world! But the Mt. Blanc Tunnel connects France to the Aosta Valley. The Valley and Switzerland are connected over the Grand St. Bernard Pass.
2abyssinians t1_j1v16jg wrote
Isnโt this the Aosta Valley? That is what the title says.
ThreesKompany t1_j1v27j1 wrote
Yes, in your comment you said the Mont Blanc tunnel goes from the Aosta Valley to Switzerland. But the tunnel goes from the Aosta Valley to Chamonix in France.

They can speak a bit of french but it is not widely spoken as a first language.
Zaketo t1_j1vkdr4 wrote
Correct. The local language is Arpitan, or more specifically, the Valdรดtain dialect. Although, today, the majority speak Italian as their mother tongue.

Beautiful shot! I was just there in August. I'd just like to point out something cool that I didn't know about until I returned from my trip and took a close look at my own photos... if you zoom in carefully you can see Bivacco Gervasutti; it's a crazy fiberglass composite tube bivouac perched halfway up the glacier complete with a dining room and sleep space for 12. Ridiculously impressive, or maybe impressively ridiculous?
Anyways, hope you found that interesting. Happy trails!

Can you zoom in? It's too high up, I can't see any of the ferrets. ๐

One of my favorite places. My father-in-law loved to go trout fishing in the river at the bottom of the valley (invisible here).
He died some years ago and his ashes were strewn into the river.

Beautiful area. I'll likely never go back unless in winter time. It turns out I'm badly allergic to the alpine grass they have in this valley. I could barely breathe when I went there. On the Chamonix side completely fine. Weird.
