We have universal single stream recycling in this state. Incentive is no longer needed

Thank you!!!

Single stream presents its own challenges in cost effectiveness and efficiency. Unfortunately it’s not the all-encompassing solution it is believed to be. We need to incentivize reduced consumption of singles use containers. “Soda tax” unfortunately does that.

I've been saying this for years as well.

Yes I do!!! It’s a tax. And deposit
Prize-Hedgehog t1_iyb40nq wrote
It neglects to mention that phase 2 of this updated bottle bill, beginning in 2024 will add another nickel to the deposit. Also, it’s forcing retailers who were traditionally exempt from accepting returnables like CVS, Walgreens, and Dollar General to install redemption machines now.
I recently mentioned this in another post, but the biggest pain in the ass is sticking this issue with retailers and wholesalers. If the state wants to take ownership of this, make it easier to get your deposit back. I don’t want to have to go to 5 different places to bring returnables. I know they’re hoping everyone will continue to just put them in a bin because truly it’s just another money grab.

Correct, it’s becomes such a fuckin burden. And it’s inefficient, takes way too long to cash in a few garbage bags of cans
Sonakstyle OP t1_iyd9q0j wrote
Correct. It’s more energy to do this

Just get the large bottle refill the nip. Save all deposit.

So you could’ve been making really good money in the 80s just by recycling all day

Definitely enough to buy comic books, soda cans from the vending machine, and such. It definitely seemed like a goldmine in Stratford in 1986!

My frustration is why am I paying a deposit on 2L diet soda bottles when Milk / OJ / Apple Juice all have far denser / higher value recyclables....with no deposit.
It still reads / feels like a soda tax to me.
Sonakstyle OP t1_iyd9ya7 wrote
Indeed. Another tax
zgrizz t1_iyb4jx8 wrote
Just make it a quarter. Make it worth returning.

We have great city wide recycling. So please Info yourself

I hope not with your attitude
[deleted] t1_iydfqx2 wrote
Explain the fault you find in my attitude. You are the one who fails to play well with others. I posted a formative historical video that enmeshed recycling in the country backed with a fee so people would collect recyclables from places other than their own homes. I pointed out that “no” was a poor rebuttal and questioned what your towns great recycling program has to do with it. Of course you wish I’m not from your town.
Sonakstyle OP t1_iydg5rm wrote
Have not taken in account of the advancements made by city wide cycling programs and would just like to pay higher taxes that hurts everyone. Deposits are very outdated.

At least you can get it back! Then there's the nip tax FAILURE.
Prize-Hedgehog t1_iyb5hgq wrote
I wouldn’t call it a failure. It generated over $4M in revenue the first year. The biggest question is how each town allocates the money.
wanderingMoose t1_iyc4fsg wrote
It was supposed to be used to clean the litter. It won't. But even if it was, it wouldn't solve the problem.

Thats true if speaking of plastic bottles, but false if speaking of bottle deposit fees.

Yes. The fees needs to go
