Hello everyone! A friend of mine wants to get a tattoo but really wants to work with an artist who has experience working on black skin. I don’t want to personally recommend anyone, as that is not something I have had to consider when getting tattoos, and have them receive a tattoo they don’t like or does not sit well on their skin. Wondering if anyone had any recommendations based off of experience in the CT area, preferably Hartford region.

I didn’t downvote the other comment there, but I do want to mention that melanin should not be an obstacle for tattoo artists, but that is not always the case. Rather than recommend someone who may not be as experienced with tattooing darker skin, I would rather recommend those who are, and can understand some of the nuances around working with different skin tones and even textures. There is a lot of underlying prejudice in the industry, and it’s important to point that out. While we want to hope that it should not be an obstacle, it’s not an impossible fact.
