This isn’t a pizza contest; it is a popularity contest. The prerequisite of actually eating the pizza at any of these places doesn’t exist. There’s also nothing from stopping multiple votes or incentives given by businesses for votes. It exists solely to get you to watch WFSB, simple.

It really is. The restaurant itself is an absolute shithole, it's like two double wide trailers with a hall between them and has flour all over the place, but goddamn do they make some amazing pies. 100 year old coal fires brick oven

Pepe's used to be the best. I think Modern is better now. John & Marias in east Haven is amazing too.

I won't argue that it's the BEST, but don't sleep on Angelina's pizza in West Hartford. Pizza is awesome with good, fresh toppings. Really good lunch deal. Good wings. Best meatball parm out there.

My favorite used to be Harry's Big Tomato in Bishop's Corner, but they've fallen off so hard. Any recommendations for Hartford County? Obviously there's a lot of great pizza in New Haven. but I need some more options in my area.

I think most in New Haven county watch WTNH, don't they? Guessing it's a very biased vote based on viewership.

4

G1itch_d t1_jeh15in wrote

As others have said, New Haven reigns supreme. In particular, Modern is my choice.

That being said there are plenty of contenders. I grew up on Wooster St so Sally's and Pepe's will always hold a place in my heart but Modern, and honestly Bar, are the kings. Little Rendezvous in Meriden and Hometown in Wallingford are solid if you're in the area. Joey's in Hartford is great. It really just comes down to your preference but I've never once been recommended a pizza joint in Willimantic. I'll have to check em out.

4

theYonderExile t1_jegh24d wrote

Glad to see Tony’s up there. Never expected it to go this far, and I can’t say confidently it’s the best in the state, but I far prefer Greek pizza to New Haven pizza.

Thin and charred pizza just isn’t my thing.

2

Munglape t1_jegxo3t wrote

Willington is very good. They're all Greek style, so they are more directly comparable. Tony's is better for traditional type pizza and the "special" is so good. Pleasant takes risks and had some really stand-out stuff. The Ding-a-ling is my favorite pizza from anywhere. Honorable mention to The Flaribbean, The Hang- Over, and The Big Willy.

I had willington pizza this Monday and modern this Wednesday, sausage and mushroom both places, and I have to say the Greek pizza at willington was more enjoyable. Their crust is absolutely delicious. Modern was good no doubt, but it was really greasy and I felt bad eating more than a couple slices. I guess to be fair pizza twice in 3 days might have put modern at a disadvantage. Call it a tie. But I'm not sold on this new haven thing, and I'm definitely going to check out these Willimantic places.

knockinforthesugar t1_jegflce wrote

As a CT native who moved to the south it is actually pretty funny when I see people trying to say y’all there. It sounds really unnatural and forced lmao. I’m in my late 20s and as a kid and even a young adult you would absolutely be made fun of (not bullying just teasing) for saying y’all. Times seem to be changing. The only instance where it’s historically natural is when used by some African American people, as AAVE is obviously linguistically distinct and that’s different. That being said language is constantly evolving and it is moving into the overall national parlance.

But people not from the north often don’t use y’all as southerners would. I notice people not from the region will use it sparingly and in conjunction with more northern phrases. Northerners also never tend to use different types of y’all’s like y’all’s or y’alls, or even you all. So in that sense it’s funny because people are trying to adapt it, but don’t have the experience of just how many ways one can use y’all and just how often it is used down here. A southerner would also never say you guys lmao.

So you guys can clown this guy all you want, but they do have a point about it being an unusual phenomenon of recent nature.

Anyway that’s my two cents.
