Hi, my husband and I recently moved to the area and we are looking for recommendations of your favorite Italian restaurants in the area. Thank you
(I'm also partial to Vinnie's Ristorante in somerville. Veryyyyy different vibe from Giulia, kind of like old-timey, eating at a sicilian grandparents' house)
Came here to say Vinny’s isn’t far down the road from Cambridge.
Pammy's is amazing.
I second Pammy’s!

Guilia and Pammy's are top notch contemporary Italian spots. If you're looking for old school red sauce type spots - Greg's Restaurant on Cambridge/Watertown line is a good option.
Ravello in Watertown is just over the West Cambridge line in and really good, but small.

Amelia’s Trattoria! A low-key, relaxed vibe with great food and drinks, really nice service, and outdoor (pet-friendly) patio

You got the two best recs already in Giulia and Pammy’s. I’m partial to Viale in Central as well.

Always liked Basta Pasta for casual take out

Surprised to hear that. I used to live around the corner and that place was always bumping. Seemed like half the police force ate dinner there. Not to mention hundreds of five star reviews on google. That said it’s $15 dinners so not sure what you were expecting. Definitely not competing with Pammy’s
Gran gusto
Also semolina kitchen (technically in Medford)
Sulmona is good
Geppetto
The best dining experience I’ve had in Cambridge. It’s v modern but it was such a beautifully designed restaurant, interesting menu and all the employees seemed happy to work there. It’s not typical of other Italian restaurants, but if you had an anniversary dinner or fun date night this is so the place.
Sulmona
I've been told carmelina's is quite good but needs a reservation way in advance
North end right?
Yes, I've a client that works there. Her vouch was transparent on the quality.
Giulia for higher end, Village Kitchen if you're looking for a more casual vibe/takeout
Love Village Kitchen.
It's by no means top-level but for essentially a hole-in-the-wall pizza-and-calzone equivalent joint, the various Fiorella's are pretty awesome and an easy step up from actual holes-in-the-wall. I've yet to find a tastier tomato sauce.
Their goat cheese and glazed walnut salad is really something as well.
Village Kitchen on Huron- pasta and pizza are similar to what you get around Naples. It’s also a hole in the wall and very charming place. Half the price of Guilias, Pammy’s, or Sulmona.
With double the oil, proving its Americanism.
I guess I’m wrong. It’s just not overpriced and was similar to what I had in Naples this summer. I’ve been to other parts of Italy and found it to be closest to Naples.
Also was in Naples this summer (assuming you meant Italy and not Florida). Food in Napoli tastes nothing like this. This resturant uses way, way too much excessive oil. And this from a person who readily ate pizza fritta, i.e. fried pizza, on the Napolitano streets.
For reference, what I got at VK was pasta alla puttanesca. I could've created an entire second dish with the oil at the bottom of my own.
Contessa
I thought food was good, but service was average. Overall I think it's worth it just for the view, incredible interior design too.

True, but aren't you basically paying for service and ambiance when you pay $100 for a meal? No way the ingredients cost anywhere near what they charge you. They seemed understaffed when I went.
Loved the view

I used to live near Pulcinella and I hope it is still good! Also giulia.
Pulcinella or Giulia
Have heard great things about Giulia!
Is there a reason you are avoiding the North End? I know it’s a pain in the ass.
My family is Sicilian and Dolce Vita is the most authentic as far as fine dining. Cinderella’s on Hampshire Street is a great take-out option as well—closest to the home-cooked meals that our family ate.

Dalí
Bertuccis
Nah it's not what it used to be. I know fam I miss it too. Sad.
I believe they went bankrupt either today or very recently 😂
😭😭😭😭😭

Giulia, hands down!
