So after HOURS of reading, research and visiting a dozen places, we narrowed it down to a couple of options. We are curious to hear your thoughts/comments on these to help us decide.
For context, we are getting a King Size; Im 5'10" (175 lbs) and wife is 5'2" (122 lbs); im a stomach and side sleeper and she's back and side. Looking to spend close to US$2,200
Here are our top six:
- Casper Wave Hybrid Mattress
- Helix Midnight Lux
- Ikea Vatneström
- Organica by Amerisleep
- Avocado Green Mattress
- Saatva Latex Hybrid

Are you able to go test them out? That's always been the deciding factor for me.

I don't have experience with any of those, but I see you have a slaatva latex in your list and I purchased a Sleep EZ latex mattress 2 years ago. Prior I had a memory foam from a company called Isoform Bergad who no longer makes mattresses. The memory foam was ridiculously comfortable to sleep in, it formed to your back perfectly. But edge support was horrendous, and while having sex it was literally working against you. I think the latex is a good compromise, it has more springiness and more edge support, while still contouring to your body better than a spring mattress.

Consumer Reports rated Avocado the highest for durability recently. It will probably be my next bed, this year sometime.

My only concern with that one is the firmness. We like more medium than firm and from what I’m reading they tend to be pretty hard :/. Did you get a chance to try it?

Recently bought the avocado green. I don’t think it’s that firm, but it’s such a subjective thing that it’s hard to say. I can say that I like it a lot more than the pillow top I had before. I think they also sell topper if it’s too firm, but of course that’s another 400 or so..

Whatever you get, make sure you check about whether the brand has fiberglass in the mattress (I'm pretty sure I've seen a couple of the brands you mentioned in the reports). There have been numerous reports lately of tiny fiberglass shards escaping from mattresses. This (of course) puts people in danger and often requires evacuating the home. Search /r/Mattress for fiberglass for a start on your research.

Avacado is the bestI have ever had. Pricey but worth it. You have a whole tear to return it if it doesn’t work for you. Love the hybrid foam and spring configuration

You are not asking a BIFL question as BIFL mattresses are 100% latex. And not everyone's cup of tea. You are asking a use case question.

All of what you said helps you zero and you are wasting your and everyone's time. You and your wife need to take your ass down to a mattress store that has these brands and try them out in person and make a decision based on your budget, comfort and heat/cool of the mattress type. 0 people on the internet can tell you if any of these are too firm or soft or hot or cold which are the use cases of purchase....hell....odds are between you are your wife, you will likely disagree.

Now if you thinking, "Hey, asshat...I can't try out a Casper in a store, gargle bees!" Well, you have two choices:

  1. Try out all the ones you can live and pick from those.
  2. Play Russian Roulette with an internet mattress, but make damn sure you read their return policy 4 times.
