The two I can think of are below, but knowing such a thing about either one is a major spoiler for them both, as it’s not entirely clear as you read what the deal is. Both are quite strange books and often make the lists when people ask for “weirdest of all time” books.

Yeah, the last couple of books (the ones co-written) are pale imitations of the ones that came before. And the ones that came before, as formulaic as they were, all had a certain sense of tense excitement to them.

Something is missing with the new ones, and it’s hard to put a finger on. I still get them and read them all, but it might be close to time to wrap it up.

The book and movie are famously quite different in many ways, but I enjoyed both.

The book has more purely “fantastical” horror elements and the movie remains focused on the psychological factors at work.
