I've walked out of a few stores. I won't spend my money where I'm not welcome (or where a store won't control their clientele).

I've unfortunately had the opposite experience. Inevitably, when I enter a shop, some asshole is crowing about "his freedums!" and generally being belligerent.
I'm sure a lot of shop owners don't want that rep, but they also don't want to tell some guy who drops a lot of money to feed his prepper fantasy to shut the fuck up, either.

I grew up in a more rural area, so CCP was more the norm than the exception, but even the Sheriff's Office staff raised a few eyebrows when someone's doddering old granny came in to get a permit so she could (I kid you not) carry her Dirty Harry .357 Magnum around.

Not just for this request:
Onthegomap.com gives you the option to draw a route on a map and get the measurments / distance. I use it to map all my running routes.

It is, but there's two factors in play.
First, we're catching up to everyone else fast. Housing prices are increasing, in some places dramatically. It will take time for us to rival some places, but I believe it will be here faster than most expect.
Two, the pay isn't increasing along with the cost of living. Wages are stagnant, and industry is stalled. It's perfectly common to see jobs asking people to do the work of three people but not paying what a single one of those people should be making.
Not a great combination.

He's been a "guest star" or "also starring" since the reboot, but he has still been afforded a contract with each season. He said that he wasn't asked to return this season and no explanation was given to him or to anyone else.

They actually did boot DJ from the cast this year for whatever reason (he barely showed up as it was).

It sadly missed its chance to go out on a high note a few years ago, and it's sort of become a satire of the show it used to be.
We all knew the origin concept was too good to last, but it's tough to watch now.
I kind of want them to end it with Old Man Adam sitting in a nursing home in front of a TV that just plays nonstop '80s reruns and have it be he just made everything up to explain why it got more crackpot over time.

It's a mixed bag. Outside the cities, opportunities are scarce for many professional fields, and while those jobs exist in the cities, competition is fierce.
Depending on your field, you may be more in demand. A specialist is going to naturally get more opportunities.
Similarly, coming from out of state makes you an interesting commodity, because if you live here, your first reaction is to wonder why someone else would want to come here.
All that said, the pay will probably be less than what you expect / hope, but the cost of living isn't generally terrible here, so it might balance out. I might abandon the idea that, "Oh, maybe it's better nearby," though. Typically, it's not.

That's exactly what I'm talking about. Sitting in a newsroom for ten years taught me one thing: nothing fun happens to reporters. You don't investigate cold cases or get anonymous tips that break things wide-open. You just slog through the day and report on other people's misery.
WhenRobLoweRobsLowes t1_j4q0iyp wrote
I have no specific insight, but maybe I can back into it this way: do books with female protagonists feel less real to you because you're female? Because, in essence, you have lived a female experience and it does not relate to your own?
Closest I can come is that I dislike protagonists with specific professions, particularly reporters and lawyers. Having been a reporter and worked with lawyers, I can say that their experiences, however fictional or fantastical they are supposed to be, don't click with me because it's so much easier to see the bullshit behind it.

One of the things you'd see with more viewing is that "Family Ties" has some interesting subtext between the hippie parents and the hardcore Republican eldest son. It's a fun twist on teenage rebellion and rejecting the beliefs of your parents, which typically goes in the other direction.
As awful as we learned Bill Cosby was over the years, "The Cosby Show" is still a strong contender in the family sitcom department. If you can separate the show from the man, it's a winner, but that's a big ask given the circumstances.

Sorry, books are often very personal choices, so random suggestions aren't helpful.
Only thing I would say is give her a book that you personally loved with a note that says just that: "This may not be your speed, but I loved this book and hope you will too."

Right. It started with "idiot ball," coined by Hank Azaria, and the other tropes have grown out of that name.

"Sanity Ball," a cousin to "Idiot Ball" and "Smart Ball."

And the Blocks will leave them out there. Between scabs and AP filler, the paper doesn't really look any different to the average reader. Subscriptions aren't hurting, ad revenue likely isn't down. Until there's a threat to their income, they won't come back to the table.
A question I do have, though: the writers are doing all this stuff now that the the PG wouldn't cover - small, community stuff that they should have been covering all along, but stuff that the Blocks don't give a fuck about. Does that coverage go away if they go back to work at PG? Because the Blocks aren't going to suddenly support small news.

Berlanti spearheaded the most consistent DCU projects to date. The movies have been flailing around trying to find a plan, and Berlanti led a 10-year effort on a single network.
Was it all gold? No, but it was far more structured and ultimately, more successful, than any other DC effort since.
